Murphysboro Food Pantry, Inc. is an independent 501(c)3 non-profit organization located at 906 N. 14th Street, Murphysboro, IL.
Mission: "Easing the pain of hunger in Jackson County".
As this statement indicates, we serve not only the community of Murphysboro, where we reside, but also a large part of northern and western Jackson County. In fact, we average serving food to around 475 families per month, which represents around 1,600 individuals per month. When you consider that we disburse around twenty to thirty pounds of food to each family each month, it doesn't take long to realize that we dispense around one ton of food monthly.
In may 2009, we purchased our current building. It has approximately 5,700 square feet and allows us much greater exposure and storage solutions than our former location. With this improvement we have greatly expanded our ability to provide more food and services to the needy. We even hope to utilize some empty office space to provide other education and services someday.
We are currently still conducting a capital campaign to finish paying for our new purchase. We are excited by the initial success of the campaign, but we cannot rest until we are finished. We are very excited by our future. We hope to be serving the needs of our hungry for many years to come.
